After two days of pre-race training in the Mongolian steppe, and a start line celebration comprising some of the best entertainment that Mongolia has to offer, the 26 selected riders for the Mongol Derby 2009 saddled up and set off on 22nd August 2009 from Kharkhorin.
August 2009 will see 25 riders - guided by former champion jockey Richard Dunwoody - tackling 'the world's longest horserace'.
