So last Saturday was the Kentucky Derby, the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports." The Triple Crown is really the only time our sport is featured on the national stage here anymore, and the Derby is obviously the marquee race.
So the focus of this week is the upcoming Kentucky Derby on Saturday. It has become the singularly most important race in the calender over here and dreams will be realised and shattered on Saturday.
Well we have a little over a week to go before this year's Kentucky Derby. It is pretty amazing how focused horse trainers and owners are all around North America trying to get a horse to run in this race.
So last week we concluded the Derby trail Derby trials. Say that quickly.
The Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, and the Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland, were the two graded stakes for 3yos and opportunities for 3yos to earn more graded stakes money to 'qualify' for the Kentucky Derby. And of course the Kentucky Derby is now only a little over two weeks away so you really don't want to run a contender any closer to the race itself than the three weeks.
