When my brother was asked at school, “can anyone name the seasons of the year?” he stuck his hand up straight away. “Flat and National Hunt” he called out with confidence. The teacher, who had been expecting the traditional answer, looked perplexed.
As we move into the middle of autumn, some mourn the leaves falling off the trees but racing fans rejoice. With the National Hunt season underway we look forward to the reappearance of Denman, Kauto Star and the other stars who lit up the last jumps festivals.
The October issue was the last of our Pocket Guides until the spring but the website continues to expand and improve and November will see some major engineering works! So make sure you keep checking back during the winter to keep track of our progress and of course catch up on all of the latest news, offers, fun and photos. Tickets for Kempton at Christmas and Newcastle for Fighting Fifth day are up for grabs so get surfing.
Meanwhile in this issue you will find a chance to win tickets for two to all of the Arena racecourse Ladies’ Days for 2009. This will take you on an adventure from Doncaster to Royal Windsor, Lingfield to Folkestone. Arena hosts 25% of all of the UK’s racing fixtures so there will be plenty of chances for the winners to strut their stuff.
We hope you have found the Pocket Guides entertaining and valuable as we strive to complement your day out at the races with tips of a different kind. We cannot promise to tell you what will win every race (although our betting columnist Paul Cooper correctly tipped the Arc winner!) but our aim is to arm you with enough information on how to make the most of the experience, so that the only guaranteed winners on raceday will be Eclipse readers.
