Understanding Odds

On Sunday 31 May Bath Racecourse hosted a horse race with a difference. The first race of the day was a pantomime charity horse race, organised by the Ashley Brixey HorseWorld fund.
This unusual addition to the raceday was run over a distance of 1 furlong (an eighth of a mile) by pantomime horses and a host of other fluffy animal mascots. The volunteers taking part were raising funds in aid of HorseWorld, (charity no. 1121920) that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes abused and neglected horses, ponies and donkeys.
Clare Brixey organised the charity race and set up the Ashley Brixey Horse World Fund in memory of her and her husband Ivan’s son Ashley, who was tragically killed in a car crash nearly four years ago, aged just 20. The Ashley Brixey fund was set up in aid of HorseWorld due to Ashley’s love of animals. HorseWorld are currently responsible for the care of over 500 animals and they completely rely on public donations to support their work.
This is the second year that the pantomime race at Bath Racecourse has taken place raising money for the Ashley Brixey HorseWorld Fund. Aimee Bennett, Marketing Executive at Bath Racecourse said “It’s great that this charity race took place again this year. As well as being a fantastic addition to our racing card, providing racegoers with some very amusing entertainment, it’s also in aid of a great charity close to the racecourses heart”
The charity race was run as part of Bath Racecourse's Summer Fete Family day race meeting and the Pantomime Horse Handicap was followed by 7 real horse races during the rest of the afternoon.
The winner of the Pantomime Horse Race was 14-year-old Jason carter from Trowbridge aka “Scooby Doo” pictured in the Winner's Enclosure (above).
