TV Presenter Jeff Stelling talks about his involvement with The Horses For Causes Racing Club
Sky Sports and Soccer Saturday television presenter Jeff Stelling, a member of the recently launched Horses for Causes Racing Club, is looking forward to his pending racehorse ownership journey whilst benefitting SPARKS, the Club’s nominated charity for 2008/2010.Have you owned racehorses before or been part of the racing club or co-ownership before?
Yes I have had shares in racehorses for about 10-15 years. It just so happens I owned Richard Philips' first ever winner he trained. So it’s a coincidence that he will be training one of the four Horses for Causes Racing Club horses – Mr Mackay, which I am looking forward to.
What do you consider the main benefits of belonging to a
co-ownership like The Horses for Causes Racing Club?
Sharing days at the races and on the gallops with like-minded people is one. It is also a more affordable route into ownership. But In particular we will also hopefully benefit SPARKS, a very worthy charity, with a percentage of any prizemoney won.
Do you follow horseracing closely in between your busy schedule?
Horseracing certainly is a passion of mine and I follow it as closely as I can, but not as much as I used to when I was presenting Sky Evening Racing. I have quite a few other commitments now and my head tends to get buried in football publications as opposed to The Racing Post and Timeform these days.
What are you looking forward to with your pending ownership journey with The Horses for Causes Racing Club?
A lot of fun hopefully, combined with some success and seeing some old faces as well as meeting new like-minded people.

The Horses for Causes Racing Club provides affordable racehorse ownership, whilst experiencing some great days out at the races, hopefully combined with some success. Ten per cent of prizemoney won by the club horses as well as the £50 from each annual membership subscription will be donated to its nominated charity.
