ROA members with Support Fund – one of the Club's horses – in the winners' enclosure at Warwick on 5 May 2008
BetfairClub ROA is a club for young people (aged 18-32) who are interested in racing – in particular the social and ownership aspects. Run by the Racehorse Owners Association, and with Michael Owen as its patron, the Club leases four horses in training that members follow throughout the year – they receive regular updates on the progress of the horses and can enter a ballot for raceday tickets as an Owner, for meetings where the horses are running. This year the runners have had a healthy strike rate of seven winners from 54 runs and 50% of runners finishing in the first four.
In addition, the Club offers special rates and packages for entry to a number of meetings throughout the year, including the forthcoming Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, Newmarket Nights, Brighton races and Doncaster St Leger.
Members often enjoy access to private facilities at these meetings, for example within the Norfolk Restaurant in the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot this year.
Launched nine months ago with the concept of attracting a new audience into racing, and to nurture a new generation of prospective owners and racegoers, BetfairClub ROA also hosts monthly social events and is organising a Club tour to Santa Anita racetrack, California for the 2008 World Championships on 24/25 October. The trip will run over five nights and costs £350 per person to include hotel, transfers, racing and stud tour. (Flights must be booked independently.)
If you are interested in joining the Club, the annual membership fee is £199 – contact Club Manager Tom Gittins on 01608 659621 or email betfairclubroa@roa.co.uk for further information.
