Denise Lewis fulfils a ‘secret ambition’ with Highclere

Olympic Gold Medallist and Heptathlon Champion, Denise Lewis joined champion trainer Richard Hannon and Harry Herbert in Wiltshire on Monday 5 March to watch her horse, Tassel, work.

Tassel, a two-year-old filly was purchased at the Doncaster Bloodstock Premier sale for 42,000 GBP on 31 August 2011 by John Warren, HM The Queen’s bloodstock advisor and looks to be a precocious two-year-old in the making.

Denise Lewis, conscious of the demands of what it takes to be an athlete at the highest level, joined two Highclere Thoroughbred Racing syndicates in October last year.

Lewis commented: “I have always admired horses, but never thought that it would be something I would be involved in or able to afford. Since meeting Harry and the team at Highclere, I have managed to fulfil a secret ambition of mine and look forward to racing later in the year and watching my horses on the racetrack.”

Harry Herbert, Managing Director of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing added: “I am so thrilled that Denise is enjoying her involvement with Highclere so much. She has got a wonderful group of horses with us this year and hopefully we are going to have a lot of fun in the 2012 Flat season.”

Lewis’s other three horses are all based in Newmarket, the Headquarters of Racing and Lewis is hoping to pay them a visit later in the Spring and watch them train before they make their racecourse debuts. These include two-year-old colts: Sabre who is in training with Michael Bell, Homage with Jeremy Noseda and Response with William Haggas.

Highclere is 'Europe’s leading racehorse ownership company' and specialises in putting together small groups of individuals to share in top quality racehorses. Highclere provides a highly personal service which includes exclusive trips to meet the trainers, watch your horse train, as well as overnight stays in the prestigious Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket.

It is this unique service combined with the consistent success of their horses including six European Champions, multiple winners at Royal Ascot, as well as the 2005 Derby winner, Motivator, and 2010 record breaking King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stake’s winner Harbinger, which has secured Highclere Thoroughbred Racing to be the leading multiple ownership company in Europe since 1992.

Some of Highclere’s other owners include: Lawrence Dallaglio, Elizabeth Hurley, Mike Tindall, Ben Fogle and Sir Alex Ferguson.
