Thursday 14th March: 4:10 – Cheltenham – 2m 4½f (2m 4f 127y) (New) Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (Class 1) (5yo+)

Siruh Du Lac comes into today’s race on the back of three wins. The six year old bay gelding made his seasonal reappearance at Newbury in November by winning a 13 runner Class 3 handicap chase by 1¾ lengths. He followed up at Exeter in December winning another Class 3 by 1¼ length before stepping up in class by winning a Grade 3 Handicap Chase on Trials Day at Cheltenham in January by a head (pictured top).

He only ran three times over hurdles and was placed twice without winning. Clearly marked out as a decent chasing prospect he has run seven times over fences, winning on five occasions and finishing placed on another occasion.

Siruh Du Lac has clearly been making pleasing progress for his connections, improving on every run this season and although he carries an extra 7lbs for his win here in January he is open to further improvement and looks capable of winning again.

A mark of his racing is how sure footed he is at his fences and he jumped superbly here last time out which is an excellent trait in a frantic 22-runner race at The Festival.

He has lots of ticks in boxes coming into today’s contest. As well as winning over course and distance he has won over this trip on further two occasions. The going should not be a concern to his backers having won in similar ground here on his last run. He has the assistance of Lizzie Kelly in the saddle today who has ridden him in nine of his 10 starts including all of his wins. A break of 47 days is not a concern as he has won after a break of 280 days at Newbury in November.
