Festive Fun at Wincanton: On Tuesday, 13th December Wincanton returns with a festive raceday in which Christmas Jumpers are required and where Christmas presents can be won.
Racing will feature seven competitive races but also an additional race for the most festive Christmas jumper in which one lucky racegoer will win two Premier tickets for Boxing Day and a bottle of champagne. Judging will take place in the parade ring after the third race (approx. 1.45pm)
Further on-course activities include a Losers to Winners draw, which will take place around the parade ring after each race with 12 copies of the hardback Sprinter Sacre: The Impossible Dream written by Brough Scott up for grabs.
Sprinter Sacre generated a level of bedlam previously unseen at the Cheltenham Festival following his victory in the 2016 Champion Chase. Legendary status was already assured yet it was Sprinter Sacre’s return from the brink, his battle with adversity and his subsequent retirement has taken this horse of the ages into such rarefied territory. Drawing on the unique resources of the Racing Post, including many previously unseen photos, the tale is told of a racehorse whose incredible looks are matched by his achievements.
A further prize on offer is a pair of Dubarry boots run as a racecard competition. As a newly appointed brand partner with Wincanton Racecourse, Dubarry is kindly supplying a pair of Dubarry country boots each raceday throughout the season.
During December, Wincanton Racecourse is also offering winning connections a meaty treat. Come Thursday, 13th December alongside the traditional winner trophy, video card, on-the-day photo and cheese board; winning owners will also receive a whole turkey hand-reared from Alban Harris in Stourton Caundle near Sturminster Newton and on Boxing Day, the meat on offer will be free range pork, home cured from Wiltshire Bacon Company. All products are being generously sourced and supplied by Else Family Butchers – the flagship butchery in Dorset.
Huw Williams, General Manager of Wincanton Racecourse, explains: “The Wincanton team is in festive spirits and each raceday will be a cracker of sorts with a bumper offering to winning connections in the former of additional goodies and a warm welcome in our new furnished Director’s Suite, to on-course competitions and competitive entry packages for racegoers.”
