Within less than a week of Hayley Turner becoming the first lady Jockey to win a Group 1 race outright when landing the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on board Dream Ahead, her female weighing room colleague Kirsty Milczarek topped off a fantastic week for women Jockeys when winning the feature race at Newbury Racecourse on Friday 15th July.
The win notched a second Listed race for Milczarek who was riding the James Toller-trained Saigon who easily took the Rose Bowl Stakes sponsored by Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd.
Trainer James Toller commented after the race: "I've only got 18 horses so it's nice to have another good one. Kirsty has done very well for me and I can't think of a race she should have won that she hasn't and she works really hard."
The win also marked a double celebration, when a gutsy gamble on Saigon paid off for team Night Shift Elite of the Royal Mail, Birmingham who were taking part in the final of Newbury’s Corporate Tipster Challenge. From a £250 bet courtesy of the Tote, Night Shift Elite walked away with £1,525 and crowned Newbury’s Corporate Tipster Champions.
The runners up were two all-lady teams and newcomers to the tipster challenge from Quantel Limited and Slough Plastering, both from Newbury. The three teams who provided the most ‘profitable’ tips across the previous three fixtures at Newbury were invited to take part in the grand final, which included free raceday hospitality, in The Hennessy, the racecourse’s fine dining panoramic restaurant.
Commenting on their win Derek Moran and Robert Poolton of team Night Shift Elite said: “We’ve had great day at Newbury races and plan to donate part of our winnings to a local charity. I tend to stick with Kirsty, who gave Saigon a terrific ride and we are thrilled to be crowned Newbury’s Corporate Tipster Champions”.
