Stellies set to cause style sensation at Grand National

In the build-up to the Grand National – to be held at Aintree Racecourse on 9th April – an innovative range of ladies footwear has been launched.

The Stellington 2011 Tall Boots are a Limited Edition Wellington Boot sold by, a distributor of top-brand boots, and created by, a webzine focusing on the social side of horseracing.

Following extensive customer research, both companies are confident there is demand in the market for a ladies’ boot that provides protection from the elements without sacrificing the stilletos so beloved of women who attend the races – thus the stilleto-wellington, the ‘Stellington’ or ‘Stelly’, was born.

“Most women prefer to wear boots rather than shoes to jump racing meetings,” said Patricia Lloyd, Marketing Director at

“However, adverse weather conditions can ruin expensive leathers and suedes, so a day at the races could seriously damage your footwear.

“On the other hand, we found many women love to wear high heels at the races, but find wedge heels rather clumpy, especially for big occasions such as the Grand National.

“We are delighted to have exclusivity of a superbly sophisticated incarnation of the original Wellington Boot which provides the luxurious practicality that a girl needs.

“Our Limited Edition Stellington design combines the robust materials of traditional Wellingtons, modelled on an orthopaedic last for comfort and support, with the style of the most fashionable ladies’ footwear.”

Karen Taylor, editor of contributed to the consultation process and is delighted with the results: “Female Grand National racegoers are already world-renowned for their commitment to fashion over practicality when it comes to the big day, but the Stelly means they no longer have to choose between the two: they can simply enjoy comfortable and stylish footwear all day long.

“I am sure Stellies are set to become a race-going classic, I can’t wait to get my own magnificent pair out in public.”

Each boot features adjustable side straps – doubled to increase the style factor – plus stirrup-strap detailing. The heels follow the stiletto model but are slightly thickened for robustness. The boots are open-toed while the platform sole protects from water ingress.

The Stelly retails at £89.99 and is available in four colours (Fuchsia, Black, Green and Pillar Box Red) from for a limited period only.
