Ladies Day at the Investec Derby Festival was the focal point for fashion on Friday 4th June as the adrenalin and excitement of the action on the course was matched only by the style and glamour of it. Elegant and on trend racegoers gathered for a classic days’ racing in the basking sun with the added incentive of winning a five star trip to Ireland.
Once again, leading figures from the world of fashion and dance had a tough job choosing the most stylish person of the day as part of the Style on the Downs competition. They were focusing in particular on style and originality, attention to detail, appropriateness of outfit to racing, and appreciation of current fashion trends.
The three finalists L-R: Susan Murphy,
Laura Gleich, Kate Hancock
Fashion designer and I’m a Celebrity star Scott Henshall hosted the event which was judged by Strictly’s stylish, Anton du Beke and dance partner Erin Boag along with ITV This Morning’s, Sharon Marshall, in choosing 10 stunning finalists (pictured: the judges with the winner – centre).
With Suzi Perry presenting the award, the judges’ final decision was the extremely elegant Laura Gleich, 25 wearing an outfit made by her mother. Laura joins a gorgeous list of Australians who have won the competition over the past few years and is looking forward to her five star trip for two to Ireland, staying in a luxury hotel and a VIP entry to the famous Galway Races Ladies Day.
Second place went to Susan Murphy who won the competition two years ago and third place went to Kate Hancock, wearing a candy pokerdot 50’s style outfit who both won a luxury three-day spa trip to Ireland. All prizes this year were courtesy of Tourism Ireland.
Style and fun are as integral to Investec Ladies Day as world-class racing and the Style on the Downs competition is now an established part of the day’s activities. The other iconic winner on the day was none other than Snow Fairy who took the Investec Oaks in glorious style.
