A right Royal triumph sounded at Epsom Live! on Friday 15 July as the third of five music evenings played out across the Surrey Downs. ‘Brit’ nominated Scouting For Girls performed to an effervescent Epsom crowd after racing, watched on by The Princess Royal.
Epsom Downs Racecourse hosted the Princess Royal and Betfair Pride of Racing Awards, before the thrilling six-race card commenced. The unlucky horseshoe of The Queen’s Derby favourite, Carlton House, was the subject of a silent auction which ran through the evening and continued the Royal theme of the occasion. Carlton’s House’s shoe became dislodged on the home straight of this year’s Investec Derby but succeeded in raising £7,500 for Racing Welfare.
Local Epsom trainer Jim Boyle injected an extra element of entertainment into the evening by naming one of his horses Scouting For Girls. The two-year-old colt appeared in the second race of the evening and the headline act went down to the paddock prior to the race to meet their namesake and cheer him home.
After racing, it was the band’s turn to entertain, as the Indie-pop trio took to the stage and rolled out a selection of their greatest hits to fans and racegoers across the sun-kissed Surrey Downs.
Next on the card is the penultimate Epsom Live! evening featuring The Wanted, before the legendary rock group Blondie take to the stage to seal another sizzling summer of Surrey entertainment. Tickets are still available so book now for the Epsom Live! music nights.
